1. Training objectives:

1.1. General objectives: This master’s programme offers a distinctive blend of ELT theory and practice that enables graduate students to apply foundational concepts in the discipline to practical teaching experience. The programme places a strong emphasis on the development of graduate students’ competence in English communication and ability to appropriately apply worldwide modern techniques of teaching English and doing research in universities, colleges, language – specialized high school in Vietnam, and to further study in the fields of English language teaching.

1.2. Specific objectives:

- To complete, expand, and improve the knowledge learned in the university programmes on teaching English;

- To have basic knowledge of theories of different teaching methods, psychology of activity and cognitive psychology, linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, development history of English so that students can apply to study the theories of modern English teaching methods;

- To assist learners with knowledge in selecting subjects related to teaching-learning such as theories of curriculum and curriculum design; theories of test-assessment of language proficiency and knowledge development; the role of information technology, modern technology in supporting teaching activities ...

- To provide students with a worldview and scientific methodology, to train students in general and specialized methods of scientific research in education and language education for the trainees to apply to the completion of the thesis. Students initially organize independent studies, research, propose appropriate solutions to the problems due to the fact of teaching and education set for them;

 - To help the graduates effectively perform English teaching and research and management work at training institutions and universities, college, high school or other research, training or human resource based institutions with foreign language skills. Students are able to continue their studies and scientific studies to obtain a doctoral degree.

 

2. Training duration: 2 years

 

3. Candidates for Recruitment: Citizens of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam who fully meet the conditions set out below are eligible for master training.

 

4. Eligibility:

4.1. Degree level:

- Having a degree in English from the regular and extended training programme of 4-5 years;

- Having another regular bachelor of foreign language and the second regular bachelor of English language;

- Or having a university degree in English 4 or 5 years of irregular training and a regular bachelor of another foreign language with good graduation results.

4.2. Working experience:

- Candidates with a good university diploma can take the examination right after graduation;

- Candidates who have graduated from an undergraduate, medium-good college must have at least two years of teaching at a public or private institution (with certification).

4.3. Health certificate: good health to study

4.4. No law violation record.

 

5. Total number of credits: 60 credits

 

6. Graduation Requirements:

Students defend their thesis after completing the prescribed training duration. The thesis score must  be at least 5 and the student has earned enough marks in the courses in the programme with 5 or more points.

 

7. Grading scale: 10/10

 

8. Programme Content:

8.1. Structure of the programme

- General Knowledge: 7 credits

- Basic knowledge : 16 credits, of which:

+ Compulsory subjects: 11 credits.

+ Elective subjects: 5/10 credits.

-  Specialized knowledge: 28 credits, of which:

+ Compulsory subjects: 18 credits.

+  Elective subjects: 10/20 credits

-  Graduation (Thesis): 09 credits
